There are few things that conjure up romance quicker than embracing under a night sky.
In a crowded world of noise and app notifications, an evening spent stargazing can be the perfect opportunity to reconnect with your loved one.
So, if you want to get wrapped up under a blanket and stare up into the great beyond this Valentine’s Day, where you should you go?
Well, luckily, we’ve compiled a list of some of the top-tier stargazing spots… all conveniently located near our Electric Super Hubs or Electric Forecourts® with High Power charging.
Northumberland National Park
Northumberland National Park is home to over 400 square miles of ‘gold standard’ dark skies and is officially an International Dark Sky Park. It’s also just under 32 miles from our Washington Super Hubs.
Eyri National Park (Snowdonia)
Although famous for Mount Snowdon, Eryri National Park is also an International Dark Sky Reserve that’s perfect for stargazing. It’s just under 55 miles from our Chester Super Hub.
Brecon Beacons National Park
Brecon Beacons National Park is also an International Dark Sky Reserve that has stunning stargazing opportunities. It’s just 19 miles from our Swansea Super Hub and 27 miles from our Cardiff West Super Hub.
South Downs National Park
Given its close proximity to London, the South Downs National Park offers phenomenal stargazing experiences as a designated Dark Sky Reserve. It’s also conveniently located just under 17 miles from our Pease Pottage Super Hub and 23 miles from our newly opened London Gatwick Electric Forecourt®.
Exmoor National Park
Exmoor National Park was the first national park to be recognised as an International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe. It’s home to some of the darkest skies in the UK and is just under 35 miles away from our newly expanded Exeter Super Hub.
Best electric cars for stargazing
We’ve also looked at some of the best electric cars to take with you – that’s cars that have a panoramic sunroof so you can stargaze in luxury and comfort away from the chilly night air.
What’s better is that they’re all versatile, so they’ll be the perfect companion no matter what your V-Day plans are from drive-through safari parks to drive-in cinemas… or the ultimate romantic trip to a drive-through McDonalds.
Fisker Ocean
The Fisker Ocean claims to be the world’s most sustainable car with a near 400-mile range and unique design touches – and that extends to the roof which includes a SolarSky version with, as the name suggests, solar panels fitted. We’re more interested in the OpenSky option here with full retractable glass roof. In ‘California Mode’ you can even drop all the window and boot glass for the ultimate viewing experience.
Tesla Model Y
No list would be complete without a Tesla Model Y. As standard you’ll get a sizeable panoramic glass roof, perfect for reclining back on the front seats and enjoy the stars. Want to kick things up a notch? Switch to Tesla’s ‘Romance Mode’ and you’ll get a wholesome wood-burning fire on the infotainment display, a boost of heating to match and a romantic playlist. Cute.
Ford Mustang Mach-E
The Mustang name evokes plenty of feelings on its own. Add in over 350 miles of range and the optional panoramic roof and we think the Ford Mustang Mach-E is the perfect model to couple up with. The roof even has a special coating helps the interior stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Porsche Taycan
Few cars can match the Porsche Taycan for getting the pulse racing on the open road, but it’s just as good for stargazing thanks to the large panoramic roof. It also features Variable Light Control allowing you to change the tint via a touchscreen (no manual blinds here). Perfect if you want some privacy.
Polestar 2
We couldn’t make a list of stargazing models without including a Polestar – which is literally named after the North Star. Fortunately, the Polestar 2 (with a range of over 300 miles) is available with a panoramic roof, allowing you to search for its namesake while relaxing inside.
