Few things can beat a day at the glorious British seaside, with an ice cream melting down your wrist, a rickety deck chair and circling seagulls over your fish and chips.
And with over 7,000 miles of coastline, the UK has plenty of beaches to pick from, no matter where you are. But which are best for EV drivers?
To make your trip full of sun, sea and sand even more relaxing, we’ve compiled the top 10 most EV-friendly beaches as part of our EV Travel Guide, that also ranks the best holiday towns, tourist attractions and music festivals for electric car drivers.
Using The Times’ guide to the best beaches in the UK, we’ve ranked them based on proximity to a GRIDSERVE Electric Super Hub, Electric Retail Hub or Electric Forecourt®, the number of these High Power charging sites nearby and the amount of other local AC and DC public charging points in the region.
And it’s Budleigh Salterton that comes out on top. Nestled in the iconic World Heritage Jurassic Coast in East Devon, this charming 2.5-mile pebble beach is serviced by over 150 chargers nearby, making it the perfect spot for EV drivers to visit, charging up on the way home with salty hair and sandy toes.
Gullane Bents, one of Scotland’s most popular beaches, secured the silver spot, with its wide, sandy bay serviced by nearby chargers at Dobbies Edinburgh. While charging, drivers can shop for a wide range of plants, home and garden products and gifts or grab a post-swim bite to eat at its restaurant.
For those planning on a trip to Wales, Oxwich Bay is another great pick for EV drivers, and comes in third thanks to the Electric Super Hub at Moto Swansea, located at junction 47 on the M4.
