New electric vehicle charge point now installed every 25 minutes in the UK

A new public electric vehicle charge point is being switched on every 25 minutes in the UK, putting the nation on track to have over 300,000 installed by 2030.

That’s according to new independent research from ChargeUK – the industry’s trade association, of which GRIDSERVE is a founding member.

Currently there are nearly one million home, work and public charge points across the country, almost one for every electric vehicle registered.

The report reveals that the existing network is capable of providing enough power for every EV to drive 580 miles – that’s 25 times the average daily car journey.

Here at GRIDSERVE we’re leading the charge with the rapid growth of High Power public charging.

In 2023, we added 300 charging bays, delivering over 1.9 million charging sessions, which helped power over 160 million zero emission miles.

And 2024 has continued at a similar speed and scale, with new Electric Super Hubs and Electric Retail Hubs opened across the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway.

If the nationwide roll out continues on the current trend, charger installation will track ahead of EV adoption, giving drivers complete confidence to make the switch.

To make sure we achieve this, ChargeUK is calling for government to remove grid, planning and permitting delays which slow charger installation, lower VAT on charging and encourage lower cost electricity to make EVs more accessible and affordable and help further develop electric HGV charging.
