The Braintree Electric Forecourt® is powered exclusively by renewable energy. In fact, every kWh used across the entire GRIDSERVE Electric Highway is replaced with net zero energy. We also have a giant 5MW battery on site that harvests energy during the off-peak to support the energy resilience of the wider network.
We’re losing trees, wild spaces and the creatures that live in them at an alarming rate, so we’ve committed to ensuring a minimum 10% net gain in biodiversity at each of our Electric Forecourt® sites. We’re proud to say life is already flourishing at Braintree, thanks in particular to perennials near the entrance – planted specifically for their benefit to pollinators – and vital water now provided by our attenuation pond, a sustainable drainage system. We’ll continue to do more and measure.
Zero emissions construction may sound like a pipe dream, but we’re already deploying a variety of techniques to support this ambitious journey. Whether that’s using modular construction techniques to minimise wastage, powering generators with vegetable oil or ensuring all working vehicles are electrified, we want to set the standard and inspire the next generation of builders. And even now the building is in use, we’re still thinking of ways to increase its efficiency, from installing green walls that enhance insulation and cooling, to collecting rainwater to flush our toilets.
