Our latest High Power chargers are capable of charging at up to 360kW – that’s enough to add 100 miles of charge in five minutes.
Not all cars are created equal, though, with most electric cars currently maxing out at around 100 to 150kW peak charging speed.
‘Why are you installing 360kW chargers then?’ I hear you ask. Well, two reasons.
Firstly, these new chargers have two connectors, which means we can split the power between two cars that are plugged in at the same, providing more charging bays than ever before on the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway.
Secondly, some of the most-technologically advanced models can reach charging speeds upwards of 300kW and in a few years they’ll become even more prevalent, so rest assured our network is future-proofed.
And rather excitingly, we’ve spotted one of the rare ones in the wild, plugged into our Roadchef Northampton Electric Super Hub… the new Porsche Taycan.
The luxury sports car is now capable of reaching a peak rate of 320kW thanks to its 800-volt battery technology. This allows faster and more efficient charging compared to standard 400-volt systems, crucially without adding any weight.
The question is, would we really see that achieved in the real world? Yes, well almost. As you can see from our images, the charger hit an impressive 315kW.
It was so quick we barely had time to use the facilities and grab a coffee before hitting the road again.
