GRIDSERVE Car Leasing and Fulham FC reveal their electric car starting 11

It’s pretty awesome being the official electric vehicle partner of Fulham FC. Not only does London’s oldest professional football club play at the highest level of the sport, the black and white army is also embracing the electric vehicle revolution.

This season, GRIDSERVE has already launched its EV salary sacrifice programme with Fulham FC staff and installed EV chargers at both Craven Cottage and Motspur Park Training Ground.

All this got us thinking: what if GRIDSERVE Car Leasing could present its starting 11, composed entirely of electric cars? We’ve probably spent a little too much time on this but here is our selection, arranged in Fulham FC manager Marco Silva’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

Goalkeeper: Volkswagen ID.Buzz

Need an invincible goalkeeper, whose skills have been honed across generations? Look no further than the Volkswagen ID.Buzz. At 4.7m long, this modern-day version of Volkswagen’s iconic people carrier is a solid shot-stopper that looks fantastic in bright colours. Although it may not be great in the air, it’s a technical player with a big passing range.

Left Back: Jaguar I-PACE

This distinguished defender has had a glittering career after first coming to our attention in 2018. It has delivered on the big stage for both club and country and while it may now be showing its age, there remain flashes of brilliance, most notably in the way it covers ground.

Centre Back: Polestar 3

The Polestar 3 has enjoyed a meteoric rise from academy upstart to first team player and is already garnering international interest. Despite its early years, it has the composure to control games and a range that will let it run and run. The optional dual motor setup also means it can explode out of any tricky defensive press.

Centre Back: BMW iX

Complementing the agility of the Polestar 3 is the strength and physicality of the BMW iX. Seriously, who would want to face off against that grille? This ultimate tough-tackling defender is our metaphorical brick wall on the 18-yard line, helping preserve clean sheets while looking classy and composed. The iX xDrive50 also has a dramatic turn of pace, which could be perfect for sprinting up the pitch for that 92nd minute corner.

Right Back: Cupra Born

The Cupra Born may not be the flashiest player in our squad, which may explain why it rarely gets the plaudits it deserves. However, everybody knows we’d fall apart without it. It’s quick, affordable, dependable, reliable and more talented than its Volkswagen ID.3 sibling; we’d be asking it to play every minute of every game.

Centre Midfield: Audi e-tron GT

The Audi e-tron GT would be our midfield talisman and leader, both on and off the pitch. Impeccably well dressed and offering bags of technical ability including a two-speed gearbox that helps to maximise acceleration off the line, but also improve efficiency at higher speeds. Although closely related to the Porsche Taycan, critics would say the Audi sacrifices a fraction of performance to be the better all-rounder.

Centre Midfield: Lotus Eletre

Our latest signing is a big one from China, although it learnt its trade here in the UK. The Eletre is an imposing figure to place in the middle of the field, but this four or five-seat SUV is deceptively light on its feet with pin-sharp accuracy and active rear-wheel steering. It also boasts a maximum 373-mile range, meaning it will be able to cover an insane amount of distance up and down the field.

Left Wing: Porsche Taycan

In pretty much every department, the Porsche Taycan is hugely talented but we feel we’d make best use of this intelligent technician out wide. This classy player has recently been prone to injury, but it offers blistering pace and pin-point accuracy for those crosses into the box.

Right Wing: Kia EV6

The Kia EV6 has been an important part of our team for years, thanks to its incredible performance and not-so-ridiculously-unaffordable monthly fee. It’s a classy and reliable performer with a very distinctive style, which is why it will likely remain in this team for years to come.

Attacking Midfield: Hyundai IONIQ 5 N

Every team needs a gamechanger, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has some unbelievable tekkers that will inevitably end up in Saturday’s Match of the Day highlights. Not only is this Korean wonder startlingly rapid, but it also has drift modes, launch control and simulated engine noises that will make this a firm fan favourite and a source of frustration for the opposition. This is the sort of player you’d pay good money to watch.

Striker: Tesla Model 3

Clinical efficiency is key, both in battery technology and in front of the goal and that’s why the Tesla Model 3 is our Golden Boot contender. It has attracted global notoriety, primarily because it has made titanic efforts in moving the entire game forwards, forcing every player on every team to get into better shape. Its technology-enhancing performance makes it one of the smartest players on the pitch and an obvious target for set pieces.
