Ever wondered what Premier League players chat about on the way home from training?
We certainly did, so we put some cameras in one of the Fulham FC’s Tesla Model Ys on loan from GRIDSERVE for the season for the ultimate Electric Carpool.
Defensive rock Calvin Bassey was behind the wheel with star forward Raúl Jiménez riding shotgun and club captain Tom Cairney stretching out in the back.
After a particularly wet and windy training session at Motspur Park (where Raul was delighted to be rehabbing in the indoor gym), the lads couldn’t wait to get in the sanctuary of the Tesla Model Y with its heated seats and steering wheel.
It was the first time in an electric car for Calvin and Tom, with electric BMW owner Raúl able to give some top tips… including why he changed and where to find the hidden door handles.
We also found out that Calvin hates going to the petrol station (“It’s long, man”), so we’ve got an electric car waiting for him when he’s ready to make the switch.
It wasn’t just all EV chat though. Tom asked who would win in a bleep test (certainly not him by his own admission) and the gang settled on flying left back Antonee “Jedi” Robinson and versatile winger Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
And what of Calvin’s driving?
Raul said: “Errrrr.” Enough said.
Tom takes the wheel
Tom, who impressed with his general knowledge in the Soccer EV challenge, took the hotseat for the second drive home from training. And Calvin was quick to complain of whiplash from a speed bump.
Backseat driver Calvin did come up trumps with some great questions, though, asking the gang who would be in their dream carpool. The consensus was a few laughs from Kevin Hart and some tunes from Alicia Keys… we’re not so sure about Mike Tyson though.
And who is the most famous person in their phone? While Raul is hanging with F1 stars, Tom was less glamorous and plumped for his Brazilian superstar team-mate Willian.
